Wellend Health launches world first high breast density clinic

15 January 2016 | By Wellend

Wellend Health is very pleased to announce the launch of a world first high breast density treatment centre, located at Attunga House at Burnside War Memorial Hospital in Adelaide, South Australia.

Recent global break throughs in breast cancer risk assessment have allowed for a clearer understanding of the risk of breast cancer each woman faces. High breast density (HBD) has been shown to be the leading independent risk factor for the development of breast cancer. Women with HBD are 4 to 6 times as likely to develop breast cancer. HBD is also is the leading cause of missed cancers during routine screening, leading to later-stage detection and increased patient mortality.

Unfortunately, HBD is extremely common in around the world. In Australia approximately 45% of women aged 40 to 65 have HBD, or 1.7m women.

Wellend Health specialises in the treatment of women with HBD through an advanced risk management and diagnostic program in conjunction with individualised therapeutic treatment.

The new clinic at Attunga House in Adelaide is the first step towards a network of clinics across Australia that will stop women dying from preventable breast cancer. Wellend has co-located its first clinical site with leading breast and endocrine specialist practice the Breast Centre at Burnside War Memorial Hospital in Adelaide, SA. The specialist centre had an existing patient base of approximately 10,000 women and those at high risk of breast cancer due to high breast density now have access to treatment.
